Role Overview

JOlivier & Partners has been retained to identify a Chief Investment Officer for a major Belgian pension fund with €48bn in AuM, responsible for defining and executing the investment strategy across all asset classes.

The Organisation & Context

Our client is one of the largest sectoral pension funds in Belgium, serving 650,000 beneficiaries across the healthcare sector. The fund is transitioning to the new Belgian pension system (WTP) and investing significantly in its investment organisation capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the investment strategy across equities, fixed income, real assets and alternatives
  • Lead a team of 85 investment professionals across asset class teams and risk management
  • Manage the relationship with the supervisory board, investment committee and external managers
  • Drive the transition to the WTP framework — a complex fiduciary and investment challenge
  • Represent the fund at sector forums and in relationships with DNB and AFM

Candidate Profile

  • CIO or Deputy CIO at a pension fund, insurance company or institutional asset manager
  • Deep investment expertise across asset classes and liability-driven investment
  • Track record of leading investment organisations through regulatory and strategic transitions
  • Belgian language skills and knowledge of the Belgian pension system strongly preferred
